FLY SAFE IN KENYA

DJI Kenya is committed to helping pilots unleash their aerial creativity safely and responsibly. In keeping with that commitment, we’re offering this page filled with the latest tips, regulatory links, and instructional videos for Kenyan users.

You can also learn about the DJI GEO System along with its flight restriction zones and all-new unlocking system. While we’ve made every effort to provide comprehensive information, this page is not a substitute for pilot’s ability to exercise good judgment. As a DJI pilot, you are solely responsible for ensuring your flights are conducted safely and in accordance with all local laws and regulations.

Flying in GEO Zones

When a DJI UAV flies near a GEO Zone, a warning will pop up in the DJI GO or DJI GO 4 app. Read these warnings carefully and react accordingly.

If a DJI UAV is flying towards an Altitude Zone at an altitude that is higher than the restricted ceiling of that zone, it will automatically decelerate and hover in place. If it is flying towards an Altitude Zone at an altitude that is lower than the restricted ceiling of that zone, it will not be able to fly any higher than that altitude ceiling once inside. If the UAV flies into an Altitude Zone without any GPS signal, it will automatically land once it regains a GPS signal.

DJI UAVs cannot takeoff in Restricted Zones. When a UAV flies near the boundary of a Restricted Zone, it will automatically decelerate and hover in place. If it flies into a Restricted Zone without a GPS signal, it will automatically land once it regains a GPS signal.

POLICIES AND REGULATIONS

As relevant policies and regulations will be updated from time to time, please check local policies and regulations before flying. You could also find additional general operational guidance on DJI Flying Tips website.

Please be sure to follow the rules and regulations as laid out by the KCAA. The body that is responsible for regulating the aviation industry in Kenya and for providing air navigation services in the Kenya flight region

DJI’s GEO System delineates where it is safe to fly, where flight may raise concerns, and where flight is restricted. GEO Zones that prohibit flight are implemented around locations such as airports, power plants, and prisons. They are also implemented temporarily around major event venues, forest fires, or other emergency situations. Certain GEO Zones such as wildlife reserves and densely populated towns do not prohibit flight but do trigger warnings that inform users of potential risks. The above-mentioned zones where flight is conditionally allowed or prohibited are collectively referred to as the GEO Zones, which include Warning Zones, Enhanced Warning Zones, Authorization Zones, Altitude Zones, Restricted Zones, and others. By default, GEO limits flights into or taking off within zones that raise safety or security concerns. If a flight within one of these locations has been authorized, GEO allows users with verified DJI accounts to temporarily unlock or self-authorize their flights. The unlocking service is not available for sensitive national-security locations.

The GEO system is advisory only. Each user is responsible for checking official sources and determining what laws or regulations might apply to his or her flight. In some instances, DJI has selected widely-recommended general parameters without making any determination of whether this guidance matches regulations that may apply specifically to you.
